What Are Age Spots?
Sometimes called solar lentigines, are flattened and can appear to be black or brown.
You can found it on the face, shoulders, arms or anywhere exposed to the sun beams and rays.
Although most people don’t get them until they are 50 years or plus in age, when your younger and spend a lot of free time in the sun, you’re liable to get them also, they look cancerous but are truly harmful and don’t need much treatment.
What Are the Symptoms of Age Spots?
Age spots can be seen on darker skin but rarely, they are most common for those with a fair skin color.
They only appear on areas that are exposed to the sun the most.
An age spot can be the size of a freckle or even more than 1/2 inch.
Are harmless, but you may need a visit to a doctor if start to get the black color because this change can be dangerous on skin.
What Causes Age Spots?
Age Spots are caused by an overload of melanin.
They may be fired up by skin aging, sun exposure, or other types of ultraviolet light exposure such as tanning beds.
You can prevent them by:
– Avoiding the sun between 10 in the morning and 3 in the daytime
– Wearing sunscreen daily
– Wearing protective clothing
How Are Age Spots Treated?
Treatment isn’t needful. However, some people want to remove age spots because they don’t like the way they look.
Your doctor may prescribe bleaching creams to fade the age spots gradually.
These usually contain hydroquinone, with or without retinoids such as tretinoin.
Bleaching creams usually take several months to fade age spots.
You will need to wear sunscreen at all times during treatment.
Bleaching and tretinoin creams make your skin more sensitive to UV damage.
There are many over-the-counter creams available that are marketed for removing age spots.
These creams aren’t as strong as prescription creams. They may or may not effectively remove your excess skin pigmentation.
If you want to use an over-the-counter cream, choose one that contains hydroquinone, deoxy arbutin, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, or kojic acid.
Cosmetics don’t remove age spots.
Instead, they cover them, ask your dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or makeup counter salesperson to recommend brands that effectively conceal age spots.
